I rescued the machine from a shed in North Carolina where it was last used to print hunting dog tags (real dog tags, oh the irony!).  After much cleaning, repair and a lot of specialized oil I got the 74 year old machine running like new and named her Daisy because, well... why not.  Most machine operators of the time were women and were said to print 500 to 800 tags PER DAY.

These machines were used by the US from WWII through the Vietnam war.  It debosses (presses down) rather than embossing (pushing up) characters into the metal, creating the distinctive vintage look that is unique to genuine dog tags of the WWII-Vietnam era.
